Jonathan Channing and Julia Raven had been best friends for as long as they could remember. They were in classes together since junior kindergarden, however their mothers were friends long before that. They guessed that they had probably known each other since the day Julia was born, because she was three months younger than Jonathan. To put it frankly, the two of them had known each other and been best friends all their lives.
Since sixth grade, Jonathan had realized that he was in love with Julia. However, she had always been talking about some other guy she liked, and he had never brought up the courage to tell her. It wasn't until their senior year in high school that he managed to tell her, when she was whining over not having a date to prom. He asked her, and she accepted, and the two pretty much were instantly unseparatable, and madly in love. They married at twenty, and Julia was pregnant by the age of twenty-two. The two of them thought their lives were absolutely perfect.
That is, until July Third, seventeen years ago. During the birth of their first child, who they planned to name Aedden Jonathan, Julia passed away. This sent Jonathan into a wave of depression, and as he had never gone a day without seeing the woman he loved, he didn't know how to act. He blamed Aedden, his son, for the death of his wife. He would take care of Aedden, and he didn't abuse the child or give it away, but while he was with the child, he would mutter about how it was his fault Julia died, and he would say horrible things to the baby. This happened until he was seven years old.
Aedden was raised strictly. He wasn't allowed to play with other children, and he had a lot more chores than most children did. He was in charge of keeping his room clean, doing the dishes, and doing tasks for his father when he was in a particularly foul mood. Among the rules in his house were 'Clean Up your Mess', 'Don't Bother Daddy' and 'Do not speak unless you are spoken to.'. Because of this, Aedden rarely spoke, and when he did, it was polite, and only to answer a question, or to explain something. When he was asked why he didn't speak more, he said he had nothing more to say, even though really, he wanted to join in on the conversations about his favourite televison shows and his favourite hockey players.
As a child, Aedden was quiet and polite, but he was always trying to please the people that were around him. He flinched whenever someone yelled at him, and he apologized quickly and often when he did something wrong. However, no one seemed to guess that Aedden was constantly being scolded and told that he was no good at home. Jonathan seemed to enjoy the reaction his son gave when he told him that 'he hated him'. Therefore, that was the most common insult that came out, and it was also the one that hurt Aedden the most.
When Aedden turned ten, his father finally allowed him to go out and play with friends, now that he was old enough to go out by himself. Aedden loved the freedom this gave him, and he began to change, speaking a little more often, being a little more carefree, and often smiling more. He managed to make good friends with a boy that had been in the same class as him for three years, and the two of were rather close. While Aedden was still fairly quiet, he had his best friend to constantly remind him to speak, so he was able to make more friends. The fun and freedom was accompanied by his father ignoring him, which he enjoyed a lot more than the constant orders and hatred. This happiness lasted until he was fifteen.
At his best friend, Damien's fifteenth birthday party, his best friend dropped a bomb on him. He was bi-sexual. At first, this didn't effect Aedden at all. He wasn't homophobic, and he really had never even though about love. When Damien clarified that it was HIM however, that he was attracted to, this caused a sever dent in their relationship. Aedden began ignoring his best friend, and this went on for months. During those months, he began realizing his own feelings, discovering that he had absolutely no care for females. This ended up with him and Damien becoming a couple.
Aedden told his father a year later, when he was sixteen. He knew his father wouldn't be happy, but he expected Jonathan would come around. Instead, his father exploded, and a large arguement began, which ended in Jonathan punching his son, and then kicking him out. Aedden collected his stuff and headed to Damien's, where he would live until he found somewhere else.
The somewhere else came four days later. He would be moving in with his mother's sister, a woman who had been trying to meet her nephew, but was not permitted to do so by Jonathan. Aedden moved to Trinton, which was far from his old home in New York, and left everything he knew.
When he came to Trinton, Aedden knew he had to change. He wasn't going to be pushed around anymore, and he wasn't going to be the kid in the corner with absolutely no friends. He built a new personality, one based on the popular guys he saw in his old school, and then forced himself to stop being quiet, nice Aedden. He talked louder, he talked more, and he started bullying those who were in the position he used to be in. This worked, and he gained popularity in Trinton fast, pushing all his memories from New York aside.
Now, Aedden barely remembers that this entire identity is a lie.
